About the Impact Beloit Concierge Internship Program
Introduction
The Impact Beloit Concierge Internship provides high-achieving junior and seniors with paid internship opportunities within a Beloit area business to gain invaluable work experience and networking opportunities.
Students are overseen by Tim Leslie, the Vice President of Career & Professional Development, and each student has a Beloit College alum mentor to help them.
An internship placement with any of the companies participating in this program will be extremely valuable for your skill and career development. As a Concierge Intern, you will gain valuable, hands-on experience working on projects integral to the operations of the business and develop and hone your professional skills. You will develop professionally through on the job experience, as well through faculty/staff and alumni advising and peer-to-peer sharing. The internship will give you excellent experience as you pursue future career paths and navigate future jobs.
- Be a junior, senior, or student returning for the 9th/10th semester free at the start of the fall 2024 semester.
- Be able to work at least 10 hours per week in 3+ hour blocks during business working hours for the full academic year (subject to all school breaks).
- Demonstrate a history of responsible, highly dependable behavior.
Interested students should complete this application and submit their resume by March 21st.
The top candidates who meet the requirements will be interviewed by the VP, Career & Professional Development. Finalists will be interviewed by a representative from the company to which you are applying.
Selections will be made on a rolling basis (so the earlier that you apply, the better) and no later than April 8, prior to fall 2024 semester course registration.
Interns will attend check-in sessions every other week with the VP, Career & Professional Development. On alternating weeks, interns will meet with their alumni mentor.
At the check-in sessions, interns will share updates on their projects, challenges, and successes and receive feedback and guidance from faculty/staff, alumni, and peers.
Check-ins will help interns reflect on what they’ve learned, learn from alumni and their peers’ experiences, and receive feedback that helps them perform better.
As the beginning of the internship, the Intern will set goals with the help of the VP, Career & Professional Development, their alumni mentor, and their company manager, which they will monitor and iterate upon during the year.
The default is that interns will be compensated (at a competitive market rate) for the internship but some of the internships will not be for pay. Even if an internship is unpaid, you will gain invaluable experience, and, in most cases, if you work hard, paid internships or full-time positions could be a result of your good work.
You will receive 2.0 units of credit for this course, one for each semester. You will register for a PRAX 270 course with the VP, Career & Professional Development and complete your goals and two reflections over the term for each course credit. You may opt out of the course credit. To do so, discuss with the VP, Career & Professional Development.
